WELCOME TO SOCIOLOGIST'S PARTY

I’m studying sociology, when I came to this career I didn’t expect much fun for the subjects, but I never thought there were subjects THAT BAD in my second year of university!!!. So I would change the subjects of my career, maybe the order too, because I have the practice the 5th year of study, this doesn’t help you to know if you totally want this career in your life. Of course it has to be before this practice, at least one year.

I have different subjects, Theory, Statistic, Investigation’s methodology, Qualitative Technics, Quantitative Technics, and a lot more. The objective of learning all these subjects is to create better investigations in the future, that will help us have a better job. I think that I would not change all the subjects, but maybe change some units of them.

The workload has to be heavy, I think that in all the careers if you don’t have pressure, your brain doesn’t work haha. Currently I have a lot of work, but this has to be like that.

About the length of Sociology I think that it’s OK, here in Universidad de Chile you have to study 5 years, but other universities have different ways to prepare their students, so it can be 4 years.

Here in sociology we have to use SPSS, a program computer very useful for statistic, I hate that program, because here in the career I still don’t know how to use it, but if I could change the career curricular, I would make better class of the program. Finally I would like that the career had more use of technology. 

WINTERWINTERWINTER

This winter I would like to visit Llanquihue, last summer I went to that place, it was beautiful and the people were very warm, but that visit was in summer so it was hot weather. I would like to know that place with rain, a lot of rain and wind; I think it would be the best picture that captures my mind.

I’m going to travel with my best friend Leonardo, but sadly we aren’t going to Llanquihue L we make a route to the North of Chile. If we are lucky, we will come to Copiapó, because my favorite uncle lives in that place.

One of the activities that we are going to do is crossing Valle del Elqui, we are going to travel on foot, so we would meet all the places that we visit better. Maybe other activities could be visiting the miners that are in Copiapó, because my uncle that lives there, has a business about mining products, like helmet, torch, big shoes, etc.

I think that the trip would be great, because I’m a backpacker and my friend is a scout boy, everything is gonna be alright. I hope to take a lot of pictures in this trip, because last summer I lost my cellphone in the sea, it went swimming in Castro.

I’m going to work this summer because I want to keep traveling! But I'm not going to study, please nobody studies this summer!!!!!!!!

Alert Spoiler about Orange is the new Black

I don’t watch TV, but I use Netflix, my favorite series is Orange is the new Black, it is about girls in prison, the best of this series is that it has a principal character, but the series is not all about her. All the episodes tell different stories about different characters.

“OITNB” shows the problems that the Prison of Litchfield has and how the prisoner gets solutions. One of the troubles is the race of the prisoners, the color of the skin defines what kind of friends you’ll have. Inside Litchfield white, black, Latin-American, Russian and Asian people live .

There are a lot of characters, but my favorite IS ALREADY DEAD. Her name is Poussey and she died in the season 4^th. She was a girl with black skin very beauty that had a relation with a Japanese girl called Soso.

Another character that I love of that series is Galina Resnikov alias "Red"; she is a Russian old woman that has the control of gangs. In the first episodes she was enemy of the principal character: Piper Chapman, but in the last season they are friends because they are accomplices of a murder. That could be my favorite episode!!. All starts with Alex Vousse, who is a prisoner (in the past she was a drug trafficker), that killed a man inside vegetable garden of Litchfield. She asks for help and one of the prisoners cuts the body, specifically she quarters this man and digs the corpse in a grave in Litchfield's garden.

I like to watch this series because it shows me a different reality!.

Post graduate Studies: Sociology of health

As I said in the last post, (if you didn’t read yet, do it haha) I want to work in sociology of health, so make a course about this theme when end my career it’s one of my ideas until now, but probably it change because I don’t have the money to do it. Take this course will helps me to be a better professional, and get opportunities to have better jobs.

The subject that I would like to study is economy; learn about how work the connection of economy and health system, would help me to create ideas and solutions for apply in our own system. I think this is very important, because the distribution of sinews conditions the type of health that people receive, the quality change according to your economic income and that is an injustice.

I would like to study in Argentina for three reasons, the first is that in this country I have an uncle, so I have a place to stay, obviously that gives me more facilities to study. The second reason is the idiom; I wouldn’t like to stay in a country that speaks other language. And the last reason is that the education there isn’t expensive, not a lot like other countries.

I think that should study in a part-time course, because would have time to work and paid the course, so I can’t take a course that demand much time.  

My future job

Think about my future makes me feel a little uncomfortable, because I’m studying sociology, so there are not so much possibilities to choose. In the past I thought make class about my career, specifically of the subject statistic, but now I refuse that.

I want to work making projects and investigations about health’s sociology, help to my community making that the system of health gets better. In this case I’ll be in an office, so it is a job indoor.

 If I have the chance to travel, I’ll do it, but I think that the problem is here, not in other country, so make theory about the problem and solution of health system it is not for travel and show to the world, it is for apply in our town.

I’m very lucky because in this university exist the course of health’s sociology, this isn’t in other institutions, so I hope understand what are the failures of the system of health and make a great job to help all the people that haven’t access to a dignified attention.

One reason of choose this theme, is that in sociology everyone wants to study about recent movements in the country like education, AFP, feminism. But just a few take cares about this theme and for me have a lot of importance

I'd like to meet

A person that I would love to meet is Miles Heizer.

Miles Heizer is an actor, who lives in United States, but I don’t want to meet him, I would love to meet Alex Standall, who is a character from the series “13 Reasons Why” and Miles Heizer brings the character to life.

Alex Standall is a character full of problems, he has a difficult personality, goes to Liberty School and there he suffers from bullying, but in the end of the story he changes and becomes a popular person.

Something that I love about this character is that he doesn’t care about anything, he always tells the truth, he is very direct to speak, and is good-looking, wears glasses and has blonde hair.

I admire the way that he doesn’t worry about the life, because sometimes I think that I have a lot of questions without answers, but Alex Standall isn’t looking for an answer, he just wants to live the present and get away from his problems.

The character has depression and in the end of the story he shot himself in his head with a gun, nobody knows if he is still alive, because in the series it just said: “he tried to kill himself, he is in the hospital”.

Election Day

I’m going to vote in the next elections, because I think that the vote for women was something very difficult to get, so we as women should go to this election for all the girls that fight for this right in the 40’s.

Electoral campaigns for me are a joke, obviously the political parties that are old, or political coalitions that take more time in the society, have more capital to make his campaigns. This is injustice, because a candidate that is independent and “new” doesn’t have the money that will give you a political party to spend in the campaigns.

The person that wants to have a public position, for me has to be smart, kind, talk about new ideas to create projects and promise that will be a better democracy in the government.

I think that we need to make a definition about what is the meaning of politics, because one thing is the government and the political parties, but another thing I believe that we make politics in our spaces, our choices, even our body will be politics. If it is in that way, I’m involved in politics; I’m a member of an organization called “Diversociales”.

Something that I don’t like about the electoral campaigns in my district is how the candidates spend a lot of money in posters that cause environmental pollution. Maybe changing the way of making campaigns will be better, use less posters to stop the environmental pollution and be closer to the community will give to candidate positive result.

Maybe my best concert

I have seen a lot of concerts, its very difficult pick only one concert, because I think that music will change our life, is in all our actions, everyday the music feed you!!

I don't know if this is my best concert but is the most recent, so I'm still singing the same songs every day haha. I went to a concert 2 weeks ago, very recently, this was Lollapalooza Festival, mainly I went to see 2 bands: "Two Door Cinema Club" and "The Strokes".

I already saw Two Door Cinema Club in 2013, so this was the second time but not for that, was less amazing than the first.

The Festival was in O'higgins Park, there is so much space for many stages, but I stayed in one stage waiting for "TDCC" 5 hours, so I didn't see others artists that were playing in that afternoon.

When appeared in the stage Sam who plays the guitar in "TDCC", inmediatly I started to cry, I think that the band makes remember me when I was 15, that was a beautiful time in my life, so that was the reason of been crying, I always remember the last years like good times.

I like alternative music, yet when I was a child used to listen rock music, something similar to punk music, very different. Even now that I'm 20 can't stand just one type of music, I'm always changing, but this band make the difference in my life.

A country I would like to visit

I will like to go to México, because there is a ceremony the 1^st November, the day of the dead. Here in Chile that day the people go to cemetery, buy flowers and visit their parents or friends who are dead.

In Mexico that day is like a party, with music, colors and the Mexicans dances for the dead people.

I don’t know so much about that country, but I know that it is very big, it has people who speak in different languages such as English and Spanish, in the south its inhabitants speak Spanglish, that’s the mixture of the two languages.

I like to meet the Maya’s culture, they were in that country many years ago, I think that the culture Maya will be very interesting and the towers that they built in the country.

Maybe I would like to study there, because the university is free, but the truth is that I don’t want to live there because it is a dangerous country, on the news Mexico always appears like a country with drugs and delinquency.

Hi!!

My name is Luz Rogers, I don't like my name, because when I was a child my classmates made jokes about the concept of light. 

I'm 20 years old, I'm studying sociology, but I think that this year I'm going to quit my career, because I don't like my subjects.

My weaknesses in English are a lot, I don't know how to speak sometimes, or write some words, but I think that I can learn very fast, so I'm exited with this class.

My strengths in English are that I can read in this language, it is very fun for me. I learned to do this in my school and never forgot how to do it. Other strength is that I like this language, so it is grateful and easy for me to study.

I hope that this class helps me to get more words, so I would speak better.

I want to learn to speak in a professional way, for that I need more vocabulary and get a better pronunciation, sometimes my friends don't understand what I'm saying hahaha.
